The first chapters of your manuscript are written, your proposal is complete; what now?

Our Advanced Novel Writing Course is designed to get you to the final word in your manuscript, tutored by multi-award-winning novelists, Alex Smith and Wilna Adriaanse.

If like many writers you require the support and feedback of a mentor then this course is designed to help you through to the completion of your novel. This course entails between 12 and 24 months of mentoring and support, including assignments based around your work. There is no theoretical component in this course, it is structured entirely around material that you are working on. Please note that this course is only open to graduates of our Write a Novel Course (both the English and Afrikaans courses).

Assignments consist of seven text instalments with feedback, four read-throughs of edits and two detailed manuscript assessments.

Course Details:

• Modules: 12 Modules
• Duration: Course can be completed at own pace: between 12 and 24 months
• Start date: At any time; applications all year round via our website

Student must produce:

• Completed manuscript of between 55  000 to 70 000 words

Admission Requirements:

• Students must be a graduate of the Write a Novel Course or Skryf 'n Roman Kursus
• Computer skills, e-mail and Internet access required

Course Curriculum

Task 1 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 2 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 3 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 4 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 5 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 6 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 7 - Text Instalment 1: 5 000 words with feedback. Time to complete task: one month

Task 8 - Total manuscript submitted for preliminary assessment pre-editing. 55 000 to 70 000 words. Time to complete task: one month

Task 9 - Editing. Submit complete manuscript with edits clearly tracked. Time to complete task : one month

Task 10 - Re-submit manuscript with second tier edits clearly tracked. Time to complete task : one month

Task 11 - Proof read. Time to complete task : one month

Task 12 - Submit final manuscript for final assessment and report. Time to complete task : one month

 

Minimum Estimated Time Commitment:

This is hard to predict, as some people are simply faster writers than others. However, the course should take 12 months to complete with allowable extensions up to 24 months.
