Coaching the Writer Within

Welcome to the Coaching the Writer Within course, facilitated by Russel Brownlee

This 7-month coaching course is all about unlocking your full creative potential as a writer.

On this course you get to connect with a personal coach - a real person who understands something of what you are experiencing as a writer, and who can give you validation, a sense of companionship, and a friendly challenge to open up more of your capabilities.

In between dealing with writing blocks, we’ll get into some other really tasty topics such as:

  • How to recognise your artistic calling and use it to power your writing.
  • How the mythic Hero’s Journey applies to you as an artist.
  • How you can harness masculine and feminine energies to manifest your creation.
  • How you can access the Inspiration Zone and unleash the powers of your subconscious mind.
  • How to create inspiring writing goals that come from your heart and are aligned with your highest potential.

“Russel’s insight, wisdom, and personal experience, combined with his sense of humour has really helped me visualise and correctly label my tendency to procrastinate and self-sabotage. Seeing, understanding, and re-framing these tendencies, has kick-started the process of overcoming them so I can get back to the enjoyment of writing.”

How does creativity coaching work?

The essence of coaching is to create a safe and supportive environment in which you can explore that which is most important to you.

This course is tailored for any writer - from beginner writers to successful, published authors - who are encountering some kind of writing block or obstacle. And let’s face it - the obstacles to creative expression are as numerous as grains of sand on a beach.

If you’re working or have kids (or both), you’ll have to really fight for your creativity time. And even if you have loads of time to spare, there’s always that “you’re not good enough” gremlin who pokes his head up just as you’re getting all fired up to create something.

For others, the obstacles might revolve around money and whether they can really afford to take the time to write. The list is endless. So, on this course one of the main things we’ll be doing is working with these blocks (sometimes known as excuses!).

The course consists of one introduction and seven coaching sessions. Detailed notes covering the content of each coaching session are e-mailed to students.

At the end of each session, students will be required to complete a number of tasks. Once the set tasks have been completed, and e-mailed to the coach, feedback will be sent to the student and the session will be considered complete. The next session will then be e-mailed to the student.

Conditions of Certification:

Students will receive an SA Writers College Certificate upon successful completion of the course, provided they meet the following conditions:

  • Students must have completed all assignments.
  • The course must have been completed within seven months of registration.

Minimum Estimated Time Commitment:

We allow up to one month per session but you are encouraged to keep this down to between one and two weeks in order for the course to have some momentum. You will always be in contact with your facilitator so you can discuss the schedule.

After studying the session notes, the exercises should take between one and three hours to complete, plus daily personal writing.
