-
Write with grammatical confidence, not guesswork
Understand the rules behind your writing instead of hoping they're right. This is especially valuable if English is your second language and you want fewer second-guesses in every email you send. -
Communicate clearly across every business format
From emails and reports to proposals and presentations, learn to structure your writing so busy readers get the message the first time. -
Eliminate the errors that undermine credibility
Misplaced commas, tangled sentences and inconsistent tone can cost you authority. We help you find and fix the patterns holding your writing back. -
Write with the polish expected of senior roles
For established professionals and executives, refine the details that separate competent writing from writing that commands trust. -
Build a skill you'll use for the rest of your career
Unlike a single report or presentation, strong business writing compounds. Every email, memo and proposal you write afterwards benefits.

What Our Students Say
The course was very specific and easy to understand. These back-to-basics skills are very important for a new writer. I can't wait to enrol for my next course.
As a second-language English speaker, I learned a tremendous amount about the English language. I really benefitted from the personal assistance and notes and feedback provided.
I've learnt more in six months than I did in fifteen years at school. They say you can't teach old dogs new tricks, but studying with the College proves that you can.
This experience has opened my eyes to my strengths and weaknesses. It will definitely be something I'll recommend to anyone wanting to broaden their writing skills.
I learned so much and feel much more comfortable with my knowledge of punctuation. Excellent course – interesting and challenging content
I thoroughly enjoyed the course. It made me look at my writing style, to keep things simple and clear. A very worthwhile course for anyone who wants to improve their writing skills.
The course was applicable to my line of work, and I found it to be quite helpful in terms of audience. Probably one of the most valuable courses I have done since university.

How Business Writing and Grammar Courses Work at SA Writers' College
What business writing and grammar courses does SA Writers' College offer?
The college offers several courses covering everything from foundational grammar to workplace-specific writing: the Grammar for Beginners Course (for English second-language speakers), the Advanced Grammar Course (for English first-language speakers with existing gaps), Mastering Punctuation, the Business Writing Toolkit and Better Writing Skills (a fully personalised course built around your specific errors).
Are these courses suitable for someone whose first language isn't English?
Yes. The Grammar for Beginners Course is specifically designed for English second-language speakers, taught by a qualified ESL trainer who explains the reasoning behind each rule rather than just correcting mistakes.
Can I enrol my employees, or is this only for individuals?
Yes — the college has trained staff at 150+ organisations, including banks, councils, colleges and government departments. Course advisors can recommend the right mix of courses for a team with mixed skill levels and help arrange enrolment for multiple staff members.
Do you offer training for teams or company-wide grammar and writing standards?
While each enrolment is currently structured as an individual course, the college has experience training cohorts within the same organisation. Get in touch with a course advisor to discuss options for training a group of employees together.
How is this different from a free grammar-checking tool or app?
These courses are taught by a real, professional tutor who reads and marks every assignment personally. Feedback explains why something is wrong and how to fix the underlying pattern, so the improvement carries over into everyday writing rather than just flagging errors in the moment.
How long do the courses take, and can I fit them around a full-time job?
All courses are self-paced with no fixed class times, built specifically for working adults. Duration ranges from around 3 months (Mastering Punctuation) up to 12 months (Grammar for Beginners Course), depending on the course and how much time you can commit each week.
How much do these courses cost?
Prices range from roughly R 4 995.00 (Mastering Punctuation) to R 7 995.00 (Grammar for Beginners Course or Advanced English Grammar), with course fees available in South African Rand.
Is there a course specifically for workplace writing like emails and reports, not just grammar?
Yes — the Business Writing Toolkit is built around real workplace formats: emails, reports and proposals. It’s aimed at anyone from new hires to senior leaders who want their writing to consistently get read and acted on.
What if I already know the basics but keep making the same small mistakes?
The Better Writing Skills Course is built for exactly this. Your tutor assesses your writing first, then you choose five modules targeted to your specific errors, rather than working through a fixed, generic syllabus.
Do employees get a certificate they can add to their CV or LinkedIn?
Yes, an e-certificate is issued on completion of every course.
What happens if I enrol and the course turns out not to be right for me?
You can transfer to a different course or receive a full refund within 7 days of starting, plus a 5% admin fee. Between 7 and 30 days, a 5% admin fee plus any bank and tutor fees already incurred applies. No refunds are offered after 30 days.
Who will actually be marking my (or my employees') work?
Courses are tutored by qualified, working writing professionals including qualified ESL trainer Andrew Murton (Grammar for Beginners, Advanced English Grammar, Mastering Punctuation, Better Writing Skills) and award-winning business writer Nadine von Moltke-Todd (Business Writing Toolkit).
